We stayed home today for the first time since school started because Hudson (and probably Harrison) have Strep throat. I was really conflicted with staying at home because I was giving my first test today and have been preparing for two weeks! I am glad I did though, we had a lot of fun today! At my house, one would have to have a fever or be unable to walk to be too sick not to make a quick trip to Dirt Cheap on a day off!! We arrived after they had just put out Halloween everything and came home to transform into Spiderman ("Speedy" as Harrison would say) for the day. It was so funny, they took it very seriously. It's amazing to me how boys just know who a character is, we have NEVER seen anything related to Spider Man yet they love him as much as Buzz Lightyear or Mickey Mouse!

On a side note... on this weekend 5 years ago Joel and I had been back from our honeymoon for a week and were still getting settled in and unwrapping wedding gifts. We had NO IDEA that Katrina would rock our region the way it did. It felt like 150 degrees outside, we stayed with my parents so that we could all sleep under a fan with the generator running, no A/C, no running water, no gasoline! I could write 10 pages on this subject just as anyone who was around this area could. I just know this....I am thankful I didn't have children at that time for their own sake. That was the bottom of the barrel for all of us. I am thankful for my A/C and running water. My parents always referred to Camille as "the storm", but to my generation now Katrina is "the storm".

RIP Blankie

Harrison's blankie that he has had since he was born was misplaced and never recovered at school last week, I am thinking someone saw it and through it away thinking it was an old piece of scrap fabric :( It was just loved so much and you could tell. So being the scardy cat I am, Joel had to work his football game and I knew that I would be alone with them all night we went out on a search. At store #4 (which is a lot of stores for Laurel!) it was like a choir started to sing when I peeked in the door and I saw the Little Giraffe (blankie brand) display. They had only ONE blankie left and it was the EXACT one that we lost only brand spanking new!!

It may or may not have been time to part with old thing but I couldn't do it to him. He has a lot of new things going on in his little life so for now we are celebrating a brand new blankie!

Rocking the Winn-Dixie Vest

We went to the Lynn Meadow's Discovery Center this weekend, BP sponsored a day for all the kids to get in free! It was so neat all the stuff was very age appropriate and no detail was left off.

Meet the next Winn Dixie superstars! They LOVED wearing the vests and working behind the seafood cooler.

They had a full on Winn Dixie grocery store with the shelves stocked, a seafood department, bakery, florist and check-out counter.

Here they are climbing up the jungle gym that goes all the way up the middle of the center.

We met my mom, Granny, Aunt Doris and Aunt Pat for lunch at Schooner's in Biloxi, it was great and these are two of my most favorite ladies!

I also dragged the boys to the outlet mall...where everyone got a prize :)

This is the conversation on our way home from school one day this week..

Harrison: BURP, "Excuuuuse me"

Me: " Thank you for being so polite Harrison, I like when you say that!"

Harrison: "It was my pleasure!"

Me: swerving off the road, "What did you say!?", "Where did you hear that!?"

Harrison: smiling.... "at school"

School is going pretty well, my students are mostly proficient which was a little surprising. They keep me on my toes because for the most part they already know all the answers to my questions.

Tonight Mawmaw and Pawpaw came and got the boys to go on a dinner date. It was so nice to cook dinner with Joel, have a glass of wine and talk without The Backyardigans in the background. Thank you, thank you!!!

and when can I retire??

I know that state retirement is supposed to be the icing on the cake with this teaching deal....that's great and all but 24 more (I have 1 year under my belt) years is a hard pill for me to swallow right now. I am going to have to take it one day at a time for now. My 106 students had their first day today. It was interesting, a little chaotic and I acted like I knew EXACTLY what I was doing....hahaha!! I have to say I have some major respect for working moms! I was so tired, had a pounding headache and was still processing my career on the ride home and Harrison was already talking about everything he wanted us to do when we got home....whew!

My three boys made waffles for us for breakfast this weekend, they love to help cook!

We saw our very good friends the Theobald's too, sweet Emma and the boys had a great time together. I am so mad I didn't get any pictures of Porter, he is Brooke made over!!

Going back to the motherly guilt of working....Charlie is benefiting too, it's the biggest bone I could find, he was a little overwhelmed.
