Laurel has had a few major industries that have made this little city what it is today. One of the old industries is masonry, a brick yard, brick manufacturing. They are not readily available and are an antique. I have one for each of my kids since they are being raised here but I wanted a few more for my friends that were raised here and now live elsewhere. So, according to my sources the "Old Hospital" has a ton of them. This would be the Charity Hospital that is unsafe to even look at! So of course we wanted to go and walk through it and look for bricks...
Water was dripping everywhere on my head I was waiting for the ceiling to collapse and trap me in here.
This is where we entered..
Some lovely art work from previous and recent visitors. I just knew we were going to come up on a tenant or drug dealer or rat or snake...
Perfectly safe to be here :/
Pappy was committed to helping me find the perfect one.
Most of them were broken or chipped.
I couldn't help but think about the people that were patients or employees here at one time.
This is the front looking out from the inside.
We joked about running across a bone while we were digging.
Nana Pierce carrying out our finds.
He went through a lot of bricks!
Old empty stairwells... scariest thing ever.
Finished product, some are engraved and some embossed. I love the engraved personally. I have relatives on gulf coast that have said these bricks are down there in old neighborhoods... a little piece of the brick history of our town.
Very cool!
